Get Healthy Utah© is seeking a qualified individual to work part-time (20 hours/week) as a Program Director. 

 

Principal Duties 
The Program Director will:

  • Prepare messages for social media.
  • Assist with grant report writing and review.
  • Conduct outreach to stakeholders.
  • Participate in coalitions and workgroups.
  • Give presentations to professional and public audiences.
  • Help assess the needs and priorities of various populations using appropriate assessment tools.
  • Assist to develop, conduct, and evaluate the effectiveness of health education/health promotion programs.
  • Create marketing and educational materials.

 

The Ideal Candidate
The model Program Director has:

  • Education and experience in health education and promotion or related field
  • Excellent writing skills and skills to communicate effectively, accurately, and concisely
  • Public presentation skills
  • Professional experience with social media
  • Experience collaborating with multiple partners
  • The ability to be proactive and work independently
  • The ability to meet deadlines and multitask
  • The ability to interpret and follow instructions

 

The model Program Director has knowledge of:

  • Community organization methods
  • Community resources and services
  • Computer operations and uses, including word processing, graphics, spreadsheets, and presentation design
  • Program marketing, public relations, and media relations methods and techniques
  • Effective communication techniques including audio-visual use

 

Preference may be given to applicants with the above.
 

Requirements include

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • Highly skilled at verbal and written communication

Title:  Ready Corps Member

 

Term of Service:  November 2017 - September 2018

 

Anticipated Service Schedule: Each member will serve 1700 hours from Nov 2017-Sep 2018, which averages 40 hrs./week, including occasional evening and weekend hours

 

SITE DESCRIPTION

The American Red Cross plays part in the whole disaster cycle of prepare respond and recover. Ready Corps plays a primary role in the preparedness stage. Each member will assist in the Red Cross mission of preparing communities through the Home Fire Campaign, the Pillowcase Project, Hands Only CPR, and general community disaster education.       

 

Position Summary

Ready Corps is an AmeriCorps program implemented by Points of Light. Members create disaster resilient communities by increasing preparedness of individuals and families through volunteer engagement. Members will provide direct service in the community and train volunteer leaders to recruit and educate teams of volunteers to:

1)Improve preparedness of individuals and families through local collaborative volunteer projects, service events, and trainings resulting in personal preparedness plans.

2)Expand Local Preparedness Networks by creating and engaging partnerships in the community, and continuing to expand the Red Cross network.

3)Support long-term recovery and sustainability by increasing organizational capacity to help individuals and families prepare and, in the case of disaster, more easily respond and recover from current events.

 

Major Responsibilities and Related Tasks

  • Design and develop volunteer projects such as neighborhood canvassing events to install free smoke alarms and educate household about fire safety, educating youth through the Pillowcase Project, supporting local preparedness fairs, and educating the public about disasters and how to build their self-reliance.
  • Organize and manage large scale Days of Service such as the National Prepare-a-thon, September 11 Day of Service, National Home Fire Prevention week, National Volunteer week, Red Cross week, MLK Day of Service etc.
  • Conduct and facilitate participation in trainings such as Red Cross volunteer training for preparedness programs, Points of Light’s Disaster Resistant Communities Group training, Points of Light’s Spontaneous Volunteer Management in Times of Disaster training.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Ready Corps members are as diverse a group as the communities they serve.

 

Applicants must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
  • Have a college degree or attended some college, have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Have served no more than two terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program.*
  • Agree to a criminal background check
  • Be able to begin service in November 2017 and be able to travel and participate in the Ready Corps Training the middle of November.

 

Previous experiences with service, training, or leadership strengthen candidacy.

 

* Individuals may receive no more than the value of two full time education awards.  If you have received the equivalent of more than one full time education award, you are eligible to serve and receive a prorated award.
